Fishing Lovers - by Steve Bernard

12" diameter oil on duraply

This is one of Steve's cutouts . He has been doing a series for the last few years of cutout paintings with small book shapes floating on and around the piece that give added info to the main image.

Picasso cutout

9x8" Oil on duraply

This was done because of a desire to own a little version of this painting, which is one of my favorites, Picasso's "Girl with a Mirror". The cutouts are something that I've been doing since my college days when I was introduced to the jigsaw...they are as close as I get to sculpture these days. Though labor intensive they're fun to do and we have them all over the house and studio.

Willem de Kooning cutout portrait

9x12 " Oil on Duraply

This is a cutout done when I was reading his biography.... from a wonderful photo of him at age 55. It's painted on plywood that has a laminated paper on the surface, called duraply, used by signpainters....it is great to paint on, and has none of the woodgrain surface that reguler plywood has. He sits on the mantle here with some other artists....
